I couldn’t believe what I saw when I arrived at my sister Jackeline’s house: not a single pumpkin in sight, not a single bat, not a single spider web… nothing. I didn’t understand why Halloween hadn’t come home. I grabbed my sister and my niece Melly and said, “There’s no way this house doesn’t have the spooky spirit of the funniest party of the year, girls!”
On the way to their home, I clocked out an Aldi store in a small shopping center. I pushed them into the year, and we went shopping for some decorations because I was a little FOMO going through Halloween without bringing some of the spirit into their house. Among porcelain ghosts and skull garlands, I found five very fun and affordable pieces that I gave to Jackie, and I knew right away that they would be a fantastic list to make, because for a few bucks, we gave a spooky and fun touch to her house.
Halloween Décors From Aldi to Scare Your Friends
Aldi is fully involved in the Halloween season. They have a fun collection of stuffed animals and fun decorations that you can throw around some corner of the house to create a mysterious and comical touch. For example, for only $4.99 you can find this 16” gnome that is slowly turning into a pumpkin, as if by a spell, and has a thick brown beard and legs with striped stockings.
Imagine this little gnome sitting next to the giant candy corn (in the picture above), one of the emblematic Halloween candies in the United States, which costs only $9.99. These two went straight to the shopping basket that I was going to take to my sister.
Witching You the Best Halloween: Plushy Ghost and Pumpkin Pillows
Also for only $9.99 I purchased this plush sherpa pillow in the shape of a devilish ghost doing his regular rounds of scares. I kept wondering if that was the one I really wanted, because next to it there was a pumpkin made of the same material, in black and white, that I should have also bought (now I’m thinking that I want it for my house).
There were several models sherpa-textured plushy pillows, not only Halloween-themed, but also timeless to have all year round at home (next time I’ll come back with more time and alone, so I can choose some with patience).
Halloween and Black Cats: The Perfect mix
My sister has two cats, Lucy (such a sweetie) and Pepe (not my favorite, he’s a grumpy old man), and so I bought her some black stoneware plates shaped like cats, and Jackie immediately fell in love with them. “I’m going to wear them all year round, not just on Halloween!” She told me with girlish eyes, as if she were returning to her childhood when Mom made us pumpkin pie for the season. The price is $7.99 at Aldi.
For a rainy night, I bought three “paint your own Halloween ceramics,” which come in the shape of a ghost, pumpkin, haunted house, and magic hat, with six small pots of colors and a paintbrush. Each of these cost me $2, and they are a great idea as gifts for kids.
As we were about to leave, Melly couldn’t take her eyes off the Dracula-shaped slippers, and if we didn’t buy them for her, we were going to have to drag her heartbroken out of the store. So I put it in the cart because, come on, it was $9.99, and the excitement of a 5-year-old girl is priceless for her favorite uncle.
